PORTLAND – A man suspected of robbing a Portland bank was arrested a half hour later in Wells after a state trooper spotted the blue pickup truck that bank employees said the robber was driving, police said.
Gilbert Rosado, 39, of Portland was being held in the Cumberland County Jail while awaiting arraignment in U.S. District Court.
Rosado allegedly entered the Bank of America branch at Westgate Shopping Center on Tuesday, displayed a handgun and fled with several thousand dollars, Portland police Lt. Vernon Malloch said.
The license plate number seen on the getaway vehicle matched that of a truck reported stolen in Portsmouth, N.H., earlier in the day, police said, and a trooper spotted the pickup headed south on the Maine Turnpike.
The pickup exited in Wells and did not stop for police who were stationed there. The driver crossed Route 109 into the Amtrak parking lot and fled on foot, but was quickly captured behind the train station, police said.
No one was injured in the arrest. Officers found money scattered around the vehicle and a firearm, police said.
