Talkative Cody, 11, is ‘a sports kid’

Cody, 11, is described by his caregivers as “an all-around delightful child.”

Cody has a sparkle in his eyes and bright smile. He loves to talk and is easily engaged in conversation. Cody is polite, curious, animated and eager to please. He is described as “a very compliant child who is willing to do anything.”

Cody describes himself as “a sports kid.” He enjoys soccer and football and plays basketball on his school team. He’s proud of having earned his orange belt in karate.

Cody enjoys outdoor activities, especially sledding in the winter months. Cody’s favorite food is pepperoni pizza, and he loves to laugh at jokes.

Cody likes everything about school and is an active and curious pupil. He receives special education services in school. Cody benefits greatly from receiving step-by-step instructions to maintain his focus on tasks. He also responds very well to structured care giving.

Cody was mistreated during his early childhood, and these experiences have affected his development. He has made great strides in learning skills to assist him in managing anxiety, and his social skills are improving. His sense of safety in the world has been challenged by his early experiences, and he is learning to ask for what he needs, rather than reverting to manipulative behaviors.

A “forever family” for Cody is being sought. Families who are confident in child management, are flexible in their approach to discipline and who are active and nurturing are encouraged to apply.

An adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family. Cody is one of the 155 children currently in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who are seeking an adoptive family.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
