A maintenance worker discovered spray paint on the outside of the James F. Doughty School in Bangor on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Green spray paint was used to write profanities and statements including “Bangor schools have failed you” on the building sometime between Saturday and Sunday, according to police.

Some windows had been painted as well.

The approximate damage to the school was $300.

Several mailboxes were smashed sometime Saturday night in Brewer, police said.

Approximately seven mailboxes were either heavily damaged or destroyed during the night on Eastern Avenue between Pierce Road and Oak Grove Drive.

There is no damage estimate or any suspects in the incident.

A Millinocket man was summoned in Brewer on Friday for shoplifting and operating after suspension, police said.

Charles Fling, 25, entered a hair salon on State Street at around 4 p.m. Friday and asked to use the phone. He was bleeding, covered in grease and seemed nervous, according to police reports.

When police officers arrived, they found Fling on State Street apparently trying to run away.

Fling was recognized as the suspect in an incident at Brooks Pharmacy earlier in the day, when a man had walked out of the store without paying for some razors, according to police. He had then tried to get away, driving over a curb and knocking a sign over before fleeing on foot, police said.

There was a passenger in the car Fling allegedly left behind. Nettie Ryder, 28, of Bangor, who owns the car, was intoxicated and uncooperative with officers, according to police. A search of the car produced some marijuana and prescription drugs, police said.

Ryder was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where she was charged with violation of probation. She remained at the jail Sunday night.

Fling was issued a summons for shoplifting and another for operating after suspension when it was discovered that his license was suspended.

A Lubec man was arrested early Sunday morning after insisting that a Bangor police officer help him purchase food at a McDonald’s, authorities said.

At about 2 a.m. police were at McDonald’s on Broadway on another call when Joshua Rier, 26, of Lubec approached Officer David Bushy and asked him to help him buy food from the drive-up window, where he had just been refused service and asked to leave.

Rier, apparently intoxicated, said the employees at McDonald’s were “racist,” according to police. Rier was asked to leave, and police left on another call.

When officers were called back to McDonald’s for a report of a disorderly man in the parking lot, they said they recognized Rier as the same man they had dealt with earlier.

Rier was given a few more warnings to leave but did not make an attempt to comply, police said. He was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.

When Bangor resident James Blakeman Jr., 19, was stopped at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 1A for displaying a 2005 inspection sticker, it was discovered that his license has been suspended four times, Holden police Officer Chris Greeley said Sunday.

“He has 10 convictions for speeding, insurance problems” and other issues, the officer said. “He is currently under suspension, times four, and he’s only 19.”

The registration for the red 1986 Chevy Celebrity that Blakeman was driving also is under suspension in connection with one of his previous offenses.

Blakeman was arrested for operating after suspension and operating with a suspended registration, and he was summoned for possession of drug paraphernalia for a marijuana pipe he had in the vehicle, Greeley said.

Blakeman, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail on Saturday and later released on bail, will face the charges against him in 3rd District Court in Bangor on May 1.
