She had “such an incredible experience last year” that she is back for more, and her goal this year is to raise $10,000 for the Boston Breast Cancer 3-Day Aug 4-6.
Cheryl Murphy of Hermon has formed her own team of walkers, MURFS MAINEIACS, to help her meet that goal.
Anyone who would like to join the team is most welcome to become part of this determined group. “I would love to have you on my team,” Murphy wrote.
The team, which will cover 20 miles each day, is just beginning to raise the money to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
Some minor fundraising has been done, but the next major event is a Bake/Yard Sale 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Murphy’s home, 356 Billings Road in Hermon.
“If you have items you would like to donate to the sale,” Murphy wrote, “give me a call and I will pick them up.” Her telephone number is 848-7396.
Store More, a self-storage business in Hermon, has donated a unit to hold the items until the sale.
The team is also selling Pizza Hut Value Cards for $8 each, and you can purchase those by calling Murphy as well.
And the owners of White Birches in Ellsworth have donated their restaurant for a dinner in June, for which tickets will soon be available.
If you would like to contribute to this fundraiser, you can do so on Murphy’s personal secure fundraising Web site at www.The3Day.org.
Call Murphy, at the number above, if you need more information.

If you work for a family-friendly business in Penobscot, Piscataquis or Knox counties, you might want to nominate your employer for the Penquis Community Action Program Family-Friendly Employer Award.
The winning business will be recognized during the annual Economic Prosperity for Everyone Conference planned for June 13.
According to information provided by Penquis CAP, “a family-friendly employer is one that has successfully helped their staff manage family and personal commitments alongside workplace responsibilities.
“Work-life harmony can be achieved when both career goals as well as family commitments are fulfilled. Employers play a paramount role in helping employees achieve work-life harmony through the family-friendly policies and practices.”
To nominate a family-friendly business, complete the Family-Friendly Business Survey online at www.penquiscap.org, or call Maria Staples at 973-3586 and she will mail an application.
Surveys must be received by Saturday, April 15.

On March 29, I wrote about contributions being accepted for a yard sale and auction, planned for Saturday, May 20, at the LaGrange Fire Station.
Wallace Blowers, treasurer of the LaGrange Veterans Monument Committee, wrote that the event not only benefits the LaGrange veterans monument fund, but also benefits the LaGrange Fire Department.
