FARMINGTON – The UMaine-Farmington Beavers racked up 16 hits en route to an 11-2 win over the Husson College Eagles in the first game of a softball doubleheader Monday. The Eagles of Bangor came back to win the nightcap 5-3 in nine innings.

FARMINGTON – The UMaine-Farmington Beavers racked up 16 hits en route to an 11-2 win over the Husson College Eagles in the first game of a softball doubleheader Monday.

The Eagles of Bangor came back to win the nightcap 5-3 in nine innings.

In the first game, Mary Berry doubled and singled twice, knocking in four runs for UMF and Megan Goodrow slapped a three-run homer.

Carolyn McAvoy’s RBI single and solo homer paced Husson.

In the second game, two UMF errors led to a pair of Eagles’ runs in the top of the ninth that gave Husson the winning edge.

McAvoy pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and one earned run while doubling and singling for the winners.

Brandi Rideout had an RBI single and sacrifice fly for the Beavers.

Saint Joseph’s sweeps Salem State

At Standish, Jamie Morrison singled in the bottom of the seventh to drive in Gabrielle Burrola to give Saint Joseph’s College the 5-4 win over Salem State College in the second game. The Monks also won the opener 7-4.

In the first game, Alysn Ludwig homered and singled to knock in four runs for Saint Joseph’s and Colby McKenney had a double and a single with two RBIs.

Brianna Cabit singled with two RBIs for Salem State and Sarah Funk hit a single and a triple.

In the second game, Leanne Morton and Morrison each drove in two runs for the Monks. Kristi Albert and Burrola hit three singles.

Samantha Clark tripled and singled with an RBI and a run scored for Salem State. Funk and Michelle Enos had two singles and a run scored.
