BUCKSPORT – The Buck Memorial Library in November of 2003 received a grant of $1,000 from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Library Trust to publish “The History of Bucksport to 1857” by Rufus Buck. The book was published in its original format, a typed copy circa 1915. It was edited by librarian Geraldine M. Spooner and is now available for use in the library for research.
The library presented copies of the book to the town of Bucksport, Bucksport Historical Society and Orland Historical Society. For more information about the book, call the Buck Memorial Library at 469-2650.
The Rudman Library Trust was established in 1986 to help libraries in Maine better serve communities with populations of less then 10,000.
The Merrill Merchants Bank was the trustee until 2005, when the Maine Community Foundation, a statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, became the trustee.
A grant of $500 in 2005 and another in 2006 from the trust will be used to continue the preservation of historical materials at Buck Memorial Library.
