CHESNUT HILL, Mass. – Jenna Macchi doubled and singled to drive in three runs and score twice to lead Boston College past the University of Maine 9-7 in nonconference softball action Thursday.

Renee Ramos and Elena Ferrero both singled, drove in two runs, and scored a run for the Eagles.

Erin Provost hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning for the Black Bears and Brittany Cheney slammed a two-run homer in the third. Ashley Waters homered and singled and Molly McKinney had a double and two singles.

At Bangor, Tory Starr hit two doubles and a single to knock in three runs and help push Colby College past Husson College.

Mollie Puskar had a double and two singles with two RBIs and three runs scored for the White Mules. Carlie Minichino had a double and two RBIs and Amy Palmer singled twice.

Carolyn McAvoy doubled and singled and scored a run for Husson and Lindsay Mitchell singled twice.

Southern Maine sweeps

At Gorham, Katie Mainville struck out 15 batters and scattered one run on four hits as the University of Southern Maine rolled past Salem State 8-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.

USM got the sweep with a 8-5 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Danica Martin sparked a three-run Husky second inning with an RBI double while Dawn Ross and Christen Lachapelle followed with RBI singles.

Meghan Ward’s RBI single produced Salem State’s lone run.

In the second game, Caterina Riitano’s two-run double capped a four-run fourth inning that gave the Huskies the lead for good.

Megan Stanley added an RBI single in the inning while Lachapelle and Meghan Ford each had an RBI single in the third.

Sam Clark, Meaghan Neenan and Cindy Gill notched an RBI single apiece for Salem State.

UNE sweeps Thomas

At Claude Dubois Field in Biddeford, Karcha Turner’s two-run, bad-hop single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Nor’easters to a 3-2 victory and a sweep of their nonconference doubleheader against the visiting Terriers.

Lisa Baillargeon had three hits and two runs scored in the opener as the University of New England earned a 10-3 win.

In the first game, UNE took control with six runs in the fifth inning, a rally fueled by Michaela O’Rourke’s two run single.

Joy Ireland had two of Thomas’ five hits, both singles.

In the second game, UNE’s Jess Silvio pitched a two-hitter while striking out seven.
