ALBANY, N.Y. – Erin Provost slammed a two-run homer and Brittany Cheney added a solo shot to lead the University of Maine softball team past Albany 5-1 in the first game of an America East doubleheader on Friday.
The Black Bears won the second game 9-0.
In the opener, Sarah Bennis tossed a seven-hitter, allowing just one unearned run while striking out four. Provost doubled and scored on an error in the first.
In the second game, Provost hit a three-run homer to spark a five-run Maine second inning.
Dana Grimm added an RBI single while Cheney notched two singles and a double, driving in two runs. Kristie Hawkins had a single and two RBIs.

Colby sweeps UMPI
At Waterville, Lindsey Toomey threw a five-inning perfect game with six strikeouts to lead Colby to an 8-0 win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Mules beat the Owls in the nightcap 11-1, also in five innings.
In the first game, Lauren Olmsted doubled, singled and scored three runs while Mollie Puskar singled twice.
In the second game, Amy Palmer notched a double, single and knocked in four runs to help the Mules earn the sweep.
Alaina Clark tripled, singled and drove in three runs for Colby.
Lanie Roy hit a double for UMPI.

Lesley sweeps Maine Maritime
At Cambridge, Mass., Gianna Spiziante had four hits, including a triple and a home run, to lead Lesley University past Maine Maritime 13-3 in the second game of a doubleheader.
Lesley defeated Maine Maritime 6-3 in the first game.
In the first game, Spizante had a double and a single to go with a home run for Lesley.
Caitlin Grant had a single and an RBI for the Mariners of Castine.
In the second game, Katie Bennett hit a double and a single for Lesley.
Jessica Whittaker had a double and a single for MMA while Chelsie Carver and Kristen Gaylord each had two singles.

Southern Maine drops two
At Gorham, Laura McAbee pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits as Roger Williams University defeated Southern Maine 7-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Roger Williams won the second game 8-3.
In the first game, LeEllen Lewis had three hits, including a triple, with two RBIs for the Hawks.
Dawn Ross hit a two run triple in the fourth inning for USM.
In the second game, Callie Nealon had an RBI single for Roger Williams.
Sabrina Mills had an RBI single for Southern Maine while Caterina Riitano added an RBI double.

At Coombs Field in Waterville, Jon Koperniak slammed a two-run homer in the second inning to lead Bowdoin past Colby.
Chris McCann singled three times and scored three runs for the Polar Bears while Joe Berte singled three times and knocked in four runs.
Nick Spillane hit three singles and Tom Salemy had a double and a single for Colby.

Husson, Thomas split
At Waterville, Sean Brawn had three hits, including a three-run home run, and six RBIs to lead Husson past Thomas College 14-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Thomas came back to take the second game 1-0.
In the first game, Jordan Stebbins and Nick Shauwecker each had two hits for Thomas.
In the second game, Stebbins scored the game’s only run in the seventh inning on a throwing error by Husson.
Ryan Rulman pitched the shutout for the Terriers.
