Orono woman charged in threat to shoot neighbor

An Orono woman was arrested and charged with criminal threatening after she allegedly threatened to shoot her neighbor outside the victim’s home on Elliot’s Landing Road.

According to reports filed by Orono police Officers Robert Sinclair and Chris Watson, Julia Duncan, 21, of Orono had been harassing the victim over the phone at around 11 p.m. Saturday, telling the victim she had received a gun for her 21st birthday and that if the victim wanted to come meet her in the road she would “shoot her in the face.” Another person heard the phone call and confirmed the events.

Two separate 911 calls were placed, and when Sinclair and Watson arrived on the scene they met Duncan outside the victim’s residence. They reportedly observed her to be unsteady on her feet, but Duncan said she had not been drinking. She later admitted to drinking one glass of wine.

Duncan admitted to threatening the victim, but it was her boyfriend, also at the scene, who possessed the .22-caliber handgun. She was charged with criminal threatening with a firearm and was taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Orono and Old Town police officers responded to a report of a domestic assault late Sunday morning in Orono.

Orono police Officer Derek Dinsmore and Old Town police Officers Bobby Pelletier and Seth Bear were dispatched to a residence on Austin Drive after a 911 call was received from the home at 11:27 a.m. The call was disconnected, and when dispatch personnel called back a male answered the phone. According to reports, a female could be heard in the background saying that “they were OK,” while the male who answered the call said “to send someone out.”

Dinsmore reported that the victim, a male, met them outside. A female, identified as Eunice Mitchell, 40, of Orono, then reportedly came out of the building and spoke with the officers. She claimed that “he never laid a hand on her, and that she never threw anything at him.”

The male then came out again and told Dinsmore that the two had had an argument. He told police that as Mitchell was yelling at him she began to take food items out of the freezer and throw them at him. He said a frozen chicken and a package of meat struck him between the shoulder blades. Dinsmore reported seeing a red mark on the man’s back. Dinsmore also saw several food items on the floor of the kitchen, including frozen meat.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with domestic violence and was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
