Woman charged in Wal-Mart theft

A Bangor woman was arrested around 5 p.m. Monday after she was observed leaving Wal-Mart without paying for items she had concealed in a backpack.

Heather Williams was seen by a loss prevention employee at the Bangor store taking clothing from displays and going to a different part of the store before concealing it in a backpack. She then left the store without attempting to pay for the items.

By the time Officer Michael Brennan arrived, Williams was in the loss prevention office.

Williams admitted to taking $70 in baby clothing from the Brewer Wal-Mart at an earlier date and had been caught, but refused to sign papers banning her from all Wal-Mart stores.

Williams was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail. During the ride she stated that she had just been released from jail and that they would be happy to see her again. She was charged with theft and criminal trespass.

A Levant man was issued a summons Monday on a charge of criminal mischief after his truck was found sunk in mud in the field behind the William S. Cohen School in Bangor.

A resident on Fruit Street had heard engines revving behind his house around 10 p.m. Monday and looked outside to see a truck stuck in the mud.

When officers arrived they discovered a Dodge truck about 75 feet into the field and a Ford truck about 10 feet into the field, both sunk up to their axles in mud, according to reports.

Brian Lee, 18, of Levant, driver of the Dodge, said he “had been stupid” and tried to drive across the field. When he became stuck he called a friend to get him out. They also got stuck.

Central Maine Towing was called to tow the trucks out. Lee could not pay for the tow, and his truck was impounded at CMT until he could pay for the service.

An estimated $500 in damage was done to the field. Both drivers expressed interest in helping with the labor to fix it, according to police.

Lee was issued a summons on a charge of criminal trespass and released. The other driver was not charged.
