ORONO and BANGOR – Two chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution have honored high school seniors as DAR Good Citizens.
Each school chose its Good Citizen based on service, leadership, dependability and patriotism.
Esther Eayres Chapter of Orono honored:
. Daniel Gary Wheaton, Old Town High School, son of Lowell and Susan Wheaton.
. Rachel Ellen Bergman, Orono High School, daughter of Carl and Joyce Bergman.
. Amanda Louise Hallett, Penobscot Valley High School, Howland, daughter of Nancy and Bruce Hallett.
Guests at the annual Good Citizen meeting included Elizabeth Berger, Georgia Paul and Myrna Bates, judges; and Carol Merinkus, principal of PVHS.
Chapter historian Phyllis Bishop gave a brief history of Esther Eayres, and Good Citizen chairman Carolyn Roach presented the Good Citizens with their pins and certificates.
In Bangor, Frances Dighton Williams Chapter honored:
. Jolene Belanger, Bangor High School, daughter of James and Debbie Belanger of Glenburn. Belanger has participated in National Honor Society, RamPage school newspaper, church youth group, art club, Teens against Domestic Violence and has qualified on a state and regional level in cross-country, winter and spring track. She has conducted scrapbooking fundraisers for Care Development and worked with the Pathfinders program serving grieving children. She will study business marketing at the University of Maine.
. Nichole Cepero, Hermon High School, daughter of Robert and Paula Cepero. Cepero is Key Club president and has participated in Student Council, National Honor Society, softball, basketball, cross country and the volunteer program at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She will attend Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.
. Amber Leathers, Bangor Christian Schools, daughter of Robert and Sherry Leathers of Brewer. Leathers participated in soccer, indoor track, softball and basketball, and has several times been named Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player. She is a member of the National Honor Society.
. Vanessa Corson, Nokomis High School, Newport.
