A Dexter man was arrested early Sunday morning after police found 261 marijuana plants, heat lamps, and other drug paraphernalia in his vehicle, Dexter Police Chief Art Roy said Sunday.

Dexter police Officer Jeff Goutreau made a routine traffic stop about 2:30 a.m. on Main Street Hill and found the plants in the vehicle driven by Travis Thompson, 23, of Dexter.

Thompson was arrested for aggravated cultivation of marijuana, a Class B felony, but posted bail Sunday morning while at the Dexter Police Department.

Thompson also was issued a summons for illegal use of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear at 3rd District Court in Bangor, but Roy was unsure of the court date.

Other passengers in the vehicle were not charged, Roy said.

A Bangor man was arrested Friday evening after he threatened a man with a large meat knife in the middle of Ohio Street, police said.

Bangor police Officer Butch Moor was in the Leadbetter Mini Stop around 5 p.m. Friday when someone came in and said there was a man with a knife outside threatening another man.

When Moor went outside, he saw two men in the middle of Ohio Street, one with a large meat knife. The man with the knife was later identified as Lamont Bowe, 28, of Bangor.

The other man reportedly had approached Bowe’s car to talk about a girlfriend while he was stopped at the intersection of Ohio and Hammond streets. The man allegedly tried to punch Bowe and told him to stay away from a certain female.

As the man was speaking, Bowe reportedly pulled out the knife and got out of the car. Officer Moor came outside then and pulled out his gun, asking Bowe to drop the knife. He did so reluctantly, and Moor held him at gunpoint until help arrived, according to police.

Bowe was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. The other man was not charged.
