FARMINGTON – The University of Maine-Farmington Beavers reached 20 wins for the season Sunday behind a combined 12 hits from Lauren Overlock, Kristi Cochin and Mary Berry in a doubleheader softball sweep of Castleton State.
UM-Farmington won both games by 8-3 scores.
In the first game, Overlock notched a two-run double, Berry hit an RBI triple, and Megan McCrum chipped in with two singles. Sarah Defilipp struck out nine.
Anita Dixon drove in two runs for the Spartans.
In the second game, Berry and Overlock each had a pair of two-run doubles, and Erin Porter and Sara Martin tallied RBI singles.
Jennifer Gadouas and Mary Galaske each drove in a run for the Spartans.

UMF sweeps Johnson State
At Farmington Saturday, Mary Berry went 4-for-6 and knocked in five runs to lead UMaine-Farmington to the sweep of Johnson State.
In the first game, the Beavers scored all nine runs in the first inning, turning eight walks into a 9-0 lead. Berry and Holly Tripp each had two hits apiece.
In the second game, Sarah Defilipp had three hits, including the game-winning RBI single, and Berry hit a double and a single to lead the Beavers.

Husson sweeps Becker
At Bangor, Carolyn McAvoy and Alicia LaGrange combined to allow only four runs Sunday as the Eagles swept Becker 9-2 and 12-2.
The Eagles split a Saturday twinbill against Elms College, winning the first game 2-1 and dropping the second 2-0.
In Sunday’s opener, Shawna Bell stroked a triple and two singles to lead a 13-hit attack. McAvoy, who scattered five hits, knocked in three runs with a double and a single.
Jenny Rollins tripled and singled (two RBIs) and Nicole Manzo rapped a triple and a double (two RBIs). Sabrina Sevigny singled twice.
Bridget Phelom singled and scored for Becker.
In the nightcap, Rollins drove in four runs with two triples to lead Husson.
Sevigny tripled and singled, while Jordan Pruett posted a single, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Amber Ramey hit an RBI single for Becker.

Maine Maritime sweeps Becker
At Castine Saturday, the Mariners took two from Becker, 5-3 and 7-4, to improve to 3-13 on the season.
In the first game, Quirina Pagan posted a double and a single, while Caitlyn Grant had an RBI double to lead the Mariners.
Amarika Sloan hit a double and two singles with an RBI for Becker.
In the second game, Chelsie Carver hit three singles and Kristen Gaylord added two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Mariners.
Sloan and Robyn Murray each had two hits for the Hawks.
Elms sweeps Maine Maritime
At Castine Sunday, Elms College improved to 19-9 overall with two wins over Maine Maritime, 8-0 and 5-0.
In the first game, Kristi Guzzo pitched the shutout to lead the Blazers, and Tammy Tremblay notched three hits.
Amanda Stover and Caitlyn Grant each recorded a single for the Mariners.
In the second game, Kerrie Bowden smacked a double for Elms.
Darcy Herrick, Kristen Gaylord and Amy Asselin each had a single for the Mariners (3-15).
Thomas sweeps Castleton
At Waterville Saturday, senior Joy Ireland pitched two complete games as the Terriers won 2-1 and 2-0 over Castleton State.
In the first game, Ireland finished with nine strikeouts. Charlee Hayes knocked in the tying run with an RBI single, then scored the go-ahead run on an error by the Spartans.
Jen Gadouas hit an RBI single for Castleton.
In the second game, Jesse Gamray helped the Terriers jump out to a 2-0 lead with an RBI double.
Thomas sweeps Johnson State
At Waterville Sunday, senior Joy Ireland pitched both games as the Terriers took two from Johnson State, 25-0 and 5-1.
In the first game, Thomas scored 10 runs in the first inning, while Ireland gave up only one hit, striking out nine.
Charlee Hayes had two doubles and five RBIs.
Jackie Kravatz had the hit for Johnson State.
In the second game, Kayla Beaudoin had two singles, a double and an RBI. Ireland earned her 11th win of the season.
Eastern Connecticut sweeps USM
At Gorham Saturday, Lindsay Savelle earned a win and a save to lead Eastern Connecticut past the University of Southern Maine 4-1 and 2-1.
In the first game, Savelle helped her cause with an RBI single during a three-run fourth inning.
Katie Mainville set a school record, striking out 16 for Southern Maine. Caterina Riitano doubled with an RBI for the Huskies.
In the second game, Savelle picked up the save, relieving Brook Nici, who struck out five.
Riitano had three hits, including a double, and Katie Martell had a double and an RBI for the Huskies.

Castleton 14, Maine Maritime 6
At Castleton, Vt., Robbie Scanlon and Matt VanDerkar scored four goals each Saturday to lead Castleton State past Maine Maritime.
Steve Gerding notched three assists and Avram Feld made 14 saves for the 9-4 Spartans.
Garrett Lake tallied four goals, while Chris Smith and Tyler Davis chipped in with a goal each. Rosco Bishop and Patrick Jones combined to make 16 saves for the 6-3 Mariners.
Baseball
UM-Farmington, Castleton split
At Farmington Saturday, UMaine-Farmington picked up its first conference win in the opener but dropped the second game of the doubleheader, giving up six runs in the first inning.
In the first game, the Beavers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past Castleton.
Chip Burnham hit the game-winning RBI double and freshman Craig Pendleton allowed only one run on five hits for the complete-game victory.
Kyle Brooks drove in the run for the Spartans.
In the second game, Aaron Wolfe went 4-for-4, and Pete McLaughlin hit a two-run single, but it wasn’t enough to help the Beavers rally back from a 10-3 second-inning deficit.
Phil Puleo drove in three runs for the Spartans.

At Waterville Saturday, Erik Hood and Adam Worrall each hit a home run in the second game as Bates defeated Colby 11-3.
Bates of Lewiston took a 9-2 victory in the opener.
In the first game, Casey McCormack hit a double and single and had three RBIs for the Bobcats, and Brian Mahoney had two singles and three RBIs. Hood finished with three singles, while Griffin Finan pitched a four-hitter for Bates.
Tyler Hales led the White Mules with two singles. Andy Carr added an RBI double.
In the second game, Mahoney had two singles and two RBIs. Rob Schuler scored three runs, and Alex Maulucci added two singles.
Craig Cooper posted a double and two singles for Colby.

At Gorham, Chris Burleson hit a home run and a two-run single to lead University of Southern Maine by Keene State 7-6 in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.
Southern Maine beat Keene State 9-6 in the first game.
In the opener, Ryan Pike belted a home run in the sixth inning. Joe McGhee added two insurance runs in the eighth with a two-out, two-run single.
In the second game, Nick Vardaro and Max Arsenault each had an RBI single for the Huskies.

Wheaton sweeps Southern Maine
At Gorham Sunday, Wheaton came from behind in both games to sweep the University of Southern Maine.
In the first game, the Lyons used a six-run sixth inning, including a grand slam by Pat O’Connor, to take the lead and never looked back.
Nick Vardardo had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for the Huskies. Eddie Skeffington added two hits with one RBI.
In the second game, Wheaton scored all five runs in the fourth inning, sparked by back-to-back RBI singles by Jake Yagjian and Mark Brown. Brandon Leonard added a two-run single in the flurry.
Ryan Borque had a double and an RBI for the Huskies, and Vardaro posted two hits.

At Standish, Wade Oliver had three hits, including a triple, a double and a home run, with two RBIs Saturday to lead Saint Joseph’s College by Elms 4-3 in the second game.
The Monks won the first game 4-3.
In the first game, Charlie Furbush had a triple with an RBI while Dustin Spiller had two singles with an RBI for Saint Joseph’s.
In the second game, Chris Doughty drove in a run with a double for the Monks while Andrew Wood added a single with an RBI.

In the second game, Wood added a single for the Monks while Chris Leger pitched six innings allowing no runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

At Waterville Sunday, Castleton State picked up a 2-0 win in the opening game of the doubleheader, but Thomas bounced back in the second to snag an 8-0 and improve to 7-3.
In the first game, Castleton sophomore Tom Cummings scattered four hits for the 3-5 Spartans.
In the second game, Brandon Connors went 3-for-4 at the plate, with three walks and an RBI for the Terriers. Jordan Stebbins pitched the shutout.
