Ardeana Hamlin’s By Hand column on Aug. 23, 2005, about aprons inspired Lenny Sweet of the Bar Harbor village of Hulls Cove to share her related memories.

About 50 years ago, my mom made me a great half-apron out of green terry cloth. It had a broad band of flowered chintz across the bottom that was sewn into two large pockets. When I cleaned a room, I put items that were out of place – like toys – into the pockets so I could continue vacuuming. I discovered that if I left the room to put the articles away, I’d find some other thing to do and forget what I was doing in the other room. I loved that apron and wore it out. It finished its days as a dust rag. Thanks for jogging the memory.
