NEW GLOUCESTER – Lawrence Pugh of Yarmouth and Naples, Fla., has been named the chairman of the board of the U.S. Biathlon Association.

Pugh is the retired president and CEO of VF Corp., the second-largest apparel company in the world. He has also served as co-chairman of the UnumProvident Corp., an insurance company with offices in Portland.

Bill Alfond, a minority owner of the Boston Red Sox and the son of Waterville philanthropist and former Dexter Shoe owner Harold Alfond, has been named a director-at-large.
