AUGUSTA – Families and Children Together will present a Maine Summit for Grandfamilies from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, in Jewett Hall Auditorium at the University of Maine in Augusta.

The event will focus on the mental health and substance abuse challenges facing Maine’s grandfamilies.

Highlights of the event will include: Dr. Joseph Crumbley, an expert on relative-kinship care and adolescent and family therapy; panel discussion by Maine relative caregivers; information about the effects of parental substance abuse on their children; and a shared parenting discussion.

Grandfamilies are families headed up by relative caregivers such as grandparents, aunts and uncles raising relatives’ children.

To register in advance, contact Doug McGraw by Friday, May 12 at (866) 298-0896.
