Johnson powers Vikings Offensive outburst carries Searsport past Mariners

DEER ISLE – Sean Johnson drove in three runs with a two-run homer and a single as the visiting Searsport Vikings upended the defending Class D state champion Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners 7-4 in high school baseball action Tuesday.

Caleb Ashey added a single and double for Searsport, which never trailed after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to break a scoreless deadlock.

Deer Isle-Stonington did creep within 5-4 with three runs in the fifth, as Ray Garcia hit a two-run double and Terrance O’Dell singled home a run.

But Johnson homered in the top of the seventh to give Searsport some key insurance runs.

Nate Adams earned the pitching win, scattering nine hits while striking out seven, walking two and hitting a batter.

Garcia pitched a six-hitter for Deer Isle-Stonington.

Rob Brown led the Mariners’ offense with three singles, while freshman Eben Powers singled twice.

At Waldoboro, Tom Kennedy pitched a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk to lead the host Panthers to their second win.

Kennedy and Nate Ayotte each had an RBI double for Medomak Valley, while Joey Blackler capped off a two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single.

The Panthers also scored three runs in the third, with Jamie Merrifield’s suicide squeeze the key hit in the rally.

Nathan Brewer paced Lincoln Academy of Newcastle with two doubles.

Ryan Parlin and Lucas Scarsciotti combined to pitch a four-hitter for the Eagles, with Parlin notching nine strikeouts.

At Bucksport, Andy Robbins hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Golden Bucks the win.

Chris Maguire doubled and singled and struck out 10 batters for Bucksport and Matt Jackson added two singles.

Tim Kenerson singled twice and scored a run while Brian Perry doubled, singled and scored for Hermon.

At Hampden, Joel Neill hit a two-run home run and a single to drive in three runs for Hampden Academy. The game was called after seven innings due to rain.

Justin Kelsey hit two doubles and scored two runs for Hampden and Evan Farley hit an RBI double.

Devin Ravin doubled and scored a run for Lawrence and Brian Manzo added an RBI single.

At Harrington, Jeff Ramsdell cranked a two-run home run and added a solo shot to lead the Washington Academy Raiders by the Knights.

Nick Wood chipped in with a solo homer and single for the Raiders of East Machias and Corey Colbeth doubled twice and drove in two runs.

Ren Dorr singled and notched two RBIs for the Knights.

Harry Beal paced Jonesport-Beals with a two-run single and Joe Libby added an RBI single.

At Rockport, Tyler Miles pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and one walk for Mount View of Thorndike in the win.

Ross Curry hit an RBI single and Ethan Jean added another single for the winners.

Noah Burke and Carlen Erskine had a single apiece for Camden Hills.

At Brewer, Jimmy Nicknair pitched a perfect game to lead Brewer to its first win. The game was called after the fifth inning due to rain.

Nicknair posted eight strikeouts for the Witches.

Caleb Smith doubled and singled to drive in a run for Brewer and Ricky Adams had an RBI double. Corey Cushing and Shun Sasaki each had two singles and an RBI and Evan Economy doubled and singled.

At Milo, Zach Morrill hit a solo home run in the first inning and later singled to help lead Penquis to victory.

Kyle Gerow hit an RBI double in the sixth inning for Penquis and Justin Morrill singled twice.

Shane Tracy doubled and singled with an RBI for Piscataquis of Guilford and Roy Burdin hit a two-run double.

At Hampden, Michelle Wells and Lacey Littlefield combined to allow just two hits and four walks while striking out 11 to earn the shutout for the Broncos.

Hannah Growe singled twice for Hampden and Eva Shannon tripled. Liz Kiser and Nellie Wood each hit an RBI single.

Courtney Danforth doubled for the Bulldogs of Fairfield.

At Bucksport, Terren Hall took a perfect game into the seventh inning to help lead Bucksport past Hermon.

Hall allowed one run on two hits and no walks while striking out 13 for Bucksport. Hall also hit a two-run home run, a double, and a single.

Jamie Beers broke up the perfect game and later scored on a Cassie White single for Hermon.

Ashley Kelley and Kristen Oakes combined for 15 strikeouts.

At Deer Isle, Audra Eaton hit two triples and knocked in five runs to lead the Mariners past the Vikings.

Heather Brewer slapped a two-run single and Regan Lawry doubled and singled for the winners.

Brittany Frisbee doubled, singled and knocked in three runs to lead Searsport. Monica Josephson singled twice and drove in a pair and Amiee Neilsen added three singles.

Autumn Slike and Danielle White had a single apiece for Nokomis.
