BANGOR – Saint Joseph’s College scored three runs in the top of the first inning and held on for a 3-1 baseball victory over Husson College at the Winkin Complex Tuesday.
A second scheduled game between the teams was canceled due to rain.
Charlie Furbush hit an RBI triple and Mark Clapp doubled home a run to highlight the first-inning rally for the Monks of Standish.
Those were the only hits Saint Joseph’s managed off Husson sophomore Keith Nason, who pitched a complete game.
Husson scored its only run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Sean Brawn.

At Waterville, Carlie Minichino hit a solo home run in the first inning and later singled to help Colby College to victory.
Kara Fagan doubled for the Mules and Christine Fitzgerald had a single and scored two runs.
Brittany Morin and Kristen Burke doubled for Thomas College.

USM wins two
At Gorham, Evon Hudspeth’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh lifted Southern Maine to a 1-0 win over Plymouth State in the first game of a doubleheader. The Huskies took the second 8-5.
In the first game, Katie Mainville struck out eight and scattered two hits over seven shutout innings.
In the second game, Maineville and Christen Lachapelle each had two singles and an RBI to propel USM to the sweep.
Katie Martell added an RBI double for the Huskies.
Rachel Pothier and Devin Caswell each had an RBI single for Plymouth State.

UNE sweeps Saint Joseph’s
At Standish, Sarah Hamel allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out seven to lead the University of New England to a 10-0 shutout of Saint Joseph’s College in the second game. UNE also won the opener 3-1.
In the first game, Katie Morin tripled and singled and scored a run for the Nor’easters. Hamel hit an RBI double and Lisa Baillargeon had two singles.
Amanda Roy doubled and scored a run for Saint Joseph’s.
In the second game, Hamel hit a double and two singles for UNE and Michaela O’Rourke had three singles and two RBIs. Karcha Turner doubled and singled to knock in two runs and Chelsea Goslin had a double and two RBIs.
Colby McKenney singled for the Monks.
