A Fairfield woman apparently fell asleep at the wheel early Tuesday on Interstate 95, causing her to suffer serious injuries in an accident. Florence Dubay, 55, was driving a 1995 Buick sedan southbound about 6 a.m., when the car drifted into the median and rolled over, clipping several trees and ejecting Dubay from the car, according to Maine State Trooper Scott Hamilton. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt, Hamilton said. Dubay was taken by LifeFlight air ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was listed in serious condition and was undergoing surgery Tuesday afternoon for nonlife-threatening injuries. Dubay had a large, black dog with her during the accident, and the dog fled the scene and remains loose in the area, the trooper said. Traffic on the interstate had to be stopped for several minutes so the helicopter could land on the highway. Hamilton was assisted at the scene by Plymouth Rescue and Community Ambulance.
