Beavers take a pair from Lyndon State

FARMINGTON – Aaron Wolfe banged out four hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead UMaine Farmington to a baseball doubleheader sweep of Lyndon State, 3-2 and 8-6.

In the first game, Pat Howell allowed four hits and two runs, and Pete McLaughlin broke a 2-2 tie with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

In the second game, Craig Pendleton allowed one earned run in five innings. Core Provencher was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Eight of nine starters collected at least one hit.

Ryan Dipompo hit a two-run triple to give the Beavers the lead for good.

At Brunswick, Nick Lawler notched a two-run single to propel Bowdoin College past Husson College.

Jon Rosenthal added an RBI single for the Polar Bears.

Jason Harvey slammed a three-run homer to pace the Eagles.

Softball

Thomas sweeps UM-Presque Isle

At Waterville, Thomas College improved to 18-19 after taking two from UMaine-Presque Isle, 8-0 and 9-1. UMPI drops to 1-11.

In the first game, Joy Ireland pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Terriers. Brittany Morin and Kayla Beaudoin each collected three hits.

Anna Lenetine notched the lone hit for the Owls in the third inning to break Ireland’s no-hitter.

In the second game, the Terriers scored five runs in the first and never looked back. Nikki Smith struck out 12 of 18 batters she faced. Beaudoin notched two doubles for the winners.

Men’s lacrosse

Castleton State 9, MMA 8 (OT)

At Castleton, Vt., Robbie Scanlon scored three goals in the final 12 minutes, including a goal one minute into overtime, to boost the Spartans past the Mariners.

Adam Rosati added two goals for 10-4 Castleton State and Avram Feld saved 13 of 31 shots.

Brandon Hamilton led 6-4 Maine Maritime of Castine with three goals. Luke McPartlin had two goals and an assist. Rosco Bishop had nine saves on 31 shots.
