Bangor

Parenting class

“How to Talk So Teens Will Listen and Listen So Teens Will Talk” is a parenting class offered through the Penobscot County Extension Office in Bangor. The two sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, and Monday, May 8, at 307 Maine Ave.

The goal of the class is to address how to improve relationships between adults and teens. Those who attend will learn communication strategies to ease the transition from childhood to adulthood in a culture that some perceive as meaner, cruder and more violent.

To register for the class, call the extension office at 942-7396, or (800) 287-1485. The cost of the class is $15 per person.

Memorial Day planning

Representatives of all veterans organizations, and others who are interested in the Memorial Day parade, are urged to attend a planning meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Bangor High School.

Brewer

Scrapbook classes

The Brewer Parks and Recreation Department will hold family photo album classes 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, April 27-May 18. The class will teach how to turn photos into treasured family heirlooms, especially for those with a graduating senior who want to create a special gift from photos taken of the person’s school years.

The class will teach participants how to organize and preserve photos, give information on photo-safe materials and creative tips on cropping and page layout design. Time will be available for participants to work on their projects with the help of the instructor.

The fee for returning participants is $20 for Brewer residents, $24 for others. The new participant fee is $25 for Brewer residents, $29 for others. New participants will be provided with a starter pack and are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m. for introduction. For more information, call 989-5199.

After school art program

The Brewer Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its next after school art class program, with Bev Langley instructing. The seven-week series of classes will be held Wednesdays, beginning May 3, at the Brewer Auditorium.

Pupils age 6 to 9 will meet 3:45-5 p.m. Children age 9 and up will meet 5:15-6:30 p.m. The cost is $30 per series for Brewer residents and $35 for others. The project fee for the sculpting class is an additional $8. Call 989-5199 to register.

Bucksport

State DAR meeting

Donna Dunbar Hoffmann of Bucksport, state regent of the Maine Daughters of the American Revolution, will preside during the DAR state conference April 28-30 in Waterville.

Chapter regents and state officers and chairmen from around the state will report on their work for the year.

An awards banquet will honor the DAR Good Citizen, a high school senior; and pupils who are winners in the American History and Christopher Columbus Essay contests.

Special guests will include Mary Lou James of Mt. Dora, Fla., chaplain general of the national society; Al’Louise Ramp of Canadian, Texas, corresponding secretary general; and Kathy Harvey of Norristown, Pa., national chairman for Friends of the DAR Library in Washington.

Orono

New minister

The Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main St., will conduct the installation of its new minister, the Rev. Lorna Stuart, at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, April 30.

Stuart is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and Bangor Theological Seminary. She has extensive experience in church programming and has been the pastor at four local churches. Stuart’s husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert O. Stuart, will preach the installation sermon.
