ROCKLAND – A fire Wednesday afternoon that started near the front steps at 77 Lawn Ave., and spread to the front door is under investigation by local fire officials.
The owners of the ranch-style home, Bruce and Cindy Kilgore, were not at home when the fire broke out, Assistant Fire Chief Mikial Mazzeo said Wednesday.
A passerby reported the 3:01 p.m. fire, which sent a light haze of smoke throughout the basement and first floor of the house, Mazzeo said. Damage was estimated at $2,500, he said, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The incident drew 10 firefighters, two engines, a ladder and a rescue vehicle to the scene for more than an hour. There were no personal injuries as a result of the fire.
