Bangor police charged an Ohio Street man with assaulting his girlfriend on Friday. She came to the police station to report he had hit and choked her.
While she was at the station, her boyfriend, Shawn Keenan, 28, called her on her cell phone and Officer Shawn Green overheard the conversation, including Keenan explaining why he had assaulted her. Green went to the couple’s apartment and arrested Keenan and took him to the Penobscot County Jail where a corrections officer recognized the man in custody and asked Keenan why he was back.
“Because I got angry,” Keenan replied. Keenan was out on bail from a previous charge and the police learned that as part of the fight with his girlfriend, he struck the windshield of her car, damaging the glass. He was charged with assault, violating conditions of release and criminal mischief.
A Bangor man slipped some pastrami and halibut down the front of his pants on Thursday and tried to leave the Main Street Shaw’s Supermarket without paying for the deli items. Christopher Dupuis, 20, was summoned on a charge of theft. Bangor police Officer Dan Herrick reported that the meat and fish were valued at $16.59.
A Bangor woman had to be physically removed, in handcuffs, early Friday morning after she showed up at her ex- boyfriend’s apartment, got into his bed and refused to leave.
Bangor police officers were called to the Glenwood Drive apartment about 1:45 a.m. by a man who reported that Carrie Ballanger, 20, was in the bedroom of his roommate, her former boyfriend. Ballanger wouldn’t respond to police at first and when an ambulance crew said she wasn’t injured, Officers Brendan Vafiades and Dennis Townsend tried to remove her. Ballanger was kicking and screaming at police when they tried to remove her, according to the police report.
The officers used pepper spray to help subdue the woman and took her to Penobscot County Jail. As the officers went to the jail’s washing station to clear her eyes, she spit at Vafiades, the police officer reported. Ballanger was charged with criminal trespass, refusing to submit to arrest and assault.
