CAMDEN – The Five Town Community School District board has made final its budget proposal for 2006-07, with the spending plan up 5.1 percent over the current year’s plan.
The budget goes before voters in Camden, Rockport, Appleton, Hope and Lincolnville on June 13.
The board last week made a key change after a pre-warrant public hearing: It cut $23,000 that had been earmarked to keep a Rockport police officer in Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport.
That savings was more than offset by an addition of $73,000 for creating an assistant principal position at the school.
Board members accepted the recommendation of administrators that an assistant principal would be more effective in addressing minor discipline problems. The school resource officer position has been in place for several years.
