BANGOR – A Bangor man who allegedly ripped the purse away from an 81-year-old woman in March was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury for robbery.
Earl J. Orsie III, 46, also was indicted for violation of condition of release.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 1 in Penobscot County Superior Court.
If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 on the burglary charge alone.
Orsie remained Monday in the Penobscot County Jail unable to make bail.
The victim told police she was getting out of her car at the Hannaford supermarket at the Broadway Shopping Center shortly before 9 a.m. March 30 when she heard a noise behind her.
She turned to see a man running at her and saying something she didn’t understand, according to Bangor police. He ripped her purse off her arm, and the woman told Officer Brad Hanson it felt like he was trying to pull her arm off.
The purse contained credit cards, a checkbook and about $50 in cash.
Later that day, police found Orsie at his Birch Street residence.
A Brewer couple also were indicted Monday in connection with break-ins on March 14.
Robert Dellairo, 24, and his girlfriend, Danielle Bellefleur, 20, both were indicted for burglary, theft and burglary of a motor vehicle. She also was indicted for violation of condition of release.
The pair is suspected of being involved in more car break-ins, Penobscot County Deputy District Attorney Michael Roberts said Monday. More charges could be filed, he said.
Brewer police tracked a stolen ATM card used at a local store and surveillance video helped to identify the possible suspects.
Investigators found stolen items in the couple’s possession estimated to be worth thousands of dollars. They included a laptop computer, digital camera and MP3 player, as well as cash, clothing and a book bag and homework belonging to the daughter of an alleged victim.
Dellairo and Bellefleur are scheduled to be arraigned in Penobscot County Superior Court on June 1.
If convicted, each faces up to five years in prison on the burglary charge alone.
