I would like to thank members of the Legislature and Gov. Baldacci for standing up for Maine’s working poor. Just recently, the governor signed into law legislation that will raise the minimum wage over a two-year span to $7 an hour.
As someone who has worked with families trying to get by on minimum wage, I know how tough it is to survive on such meager wages. I am thankful there are people willing to see the truth and reject the mythology that surrounds the minimum wage.
An increase to $7 an hour will mean $1,000 more a year to help cover basic needs such as food, clothing and gasoline. This increase not only helps families but it also helps Maine’s businesses because the money gets pumped immediately into the economy.
This November please remember that Gov. Baldacci stood up for Maine’s low-income people and for the Maine economy.
