CHICOPEE, Mass. – Thomas College defeated Castleton State College 2-0 Friday in Game 2 of the double-elimination North Atlantic Conference softball tournament, then lost to Elms College 1-0 in eight innings in Game 4.
Elms beat Lesley University 6-4 in Game 1 and Castleton State defeated Lesley 2-0 in Game 3.
Thomas plays Castleton State in today’s 1 p.m. game with the winner to face Elms for the championship at 3 p.m.
If necessary, Game 7 will be played Sunday at noon.
In Game 2, Joy Ireland pitched a one-hitter for Thomas, striking out nine and walking one to earn the shutout win.
Brittany Oxley had a double and an RBI for Thomas and Brittany Morin singled to knock in a run.
Anita Dixon singled for Castleton State.
In Game 4, Danielle LaPlante hit an RBI single in the eighth inning to give Elms the win.
Kristi Guzzo allowed just one hit and four walks for the shutout.
Jennifer Higgins singled for Thomas.

Southern Maine splits in tourney
At Providence, R.I., the Huskies picked up a 1-0 win over Keene State but fell to Rhode Island College 5-2 during the second round of the Little East Conference tournament.
In the first game, Evon Hudspeth hit a one-out single to center field to score Caterina Riitano in the bottom of the eighth, boosting USM to the win. Katie Mainville struck out 10 and scattered eight hits for the win. Jessica Starkey had two hits for Keene State.
In the second game, the Huskies committed six errors, leading to four unearned runs for RIC, and Christie Lotti added an RBI single for the winners. Whitney Westman doubled for USM while Dawn Ross and Riitano each had an RBI.

At Leahey Field in Lewiston, Bates erupted for 11 runs in the eighth inning to rally past Colby of Waterville.
The Bobcats (12-18) sent 14 batters to the plate to face six different Colby pitchers during the uprising. Brian Mahoney hit a three-run double, his school-record 44th hit of the season to highlight the rally.

At Gorham, Ryan Oshima hit three singles and drove in five runs to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston past the University of Southern Maine.
Derek Plante hit a double and three singles with an RBI for UMass Boston.
Ryan Bourque homered and doubled to drive in two runs for Southern Maine and Jordan Yanni had a double and two singles with two RBIs.
