Republican Women to mark 60th anniversary

Now that their convention is over, members of the Maine Federation of Republican Women have something special of their own to look forward to: Celebrating 60 years of volunteer service in Maine.

MFRW President Linda Brawn called to say that her organization will host An Affair to Remember Celebration Wednesday, May 24, at the Senator Inn in Augusta.

The cost is $20 per person, and reservations are necessary.

You can reserve your spot by calling or writing Brawn at 236-3123, 128 High St., Camden 04843, or e-mailing lindabrawn

Brawn wrote that the first meeting to organize a state Federation of Republican Women’s club was held June 1, 1946, with founder Ela Thompson of Waterville.

The keynote speaker for the 60th anniversary celebration will be National Federation of Republican Women president Beverly Davis of Utah.

Other speakers include Angela Desrochers of the U.S. Department of Education, gubernatorial candidate Chandler Woodcock, U.S. House of Representatives 1st District candidate Darlene Curley and 2nd District candidate Scott Amboise.

Maine’s two senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, have also been invited to address the celebration.
