Troupe stages fun play about women’s ‘Lives’

WINTERPORT – Winterport Open Stage will present “Parallel Lives,” based on the “Kathy and Mo Show,” by Kathy Najimy and Mo Gaffney, May 12-21 at Wagner Middle School, Mountainview Drive.

The collection of hilarious sketches by and about women is a clever tribute to the feminine gender. The show is recommended for mature audiences only. Touching on religion, dating, family dynamics and even creation of the human race, the cast of eight women portrays 29 different characters – some of them male – ranging in age from 6 to 66, each more outrageous than the last.

The cast is made up of Susan Curry, Kate England, Shari Gervasi, Jenny Hart, Martha MacLeod, Jeri Misler, Kathryn Ravenscraft and Page Spencer.

“This script appeals on so many levels, I call it an ‘everywoman’ play,” said Jeri Misler, director of “Parallel Lives.” “Every woman seeing this show will say ‘Aha, I can relate to that character or situation.’ I believe women do lead parallel lives – we have careers, live in different places, have many or no children, yet we all share universal issues. This show embraces our commonalities.”

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays, May 12 and 19, and Saturdays, May 13 and 20; 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13; and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21.

Saturday, May 13, is designated as Women’s Night Out with a special post show “women’s chat” for interested audience members and cast. Complimentary refreshments will be provided for the women’s chat.

Tickets are $8, $5 for senior citizens and students, available at the door or in advance at Rebecca’s in downtown Bangor, Schacht’s True Value Hardware in Hampden and Molly’s in Winterport. For more info, call 941-9151 or visit WinterportOpenStage.com.
