MILLINOCKET – Principal Paul M. MacDonald has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2006.
Stephanie Lyn Crosby, daughter of Frank and Katherine Crosby of Millinocket, has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2006. She has been accepted at several colleges and is waiting for decisions from others before making her final choice.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Commended Scholar, has volunteered with the Katahdin Area Support Group and teaches French at Granite Street Elementary School.
Crosby is active in school activities, including the math team, is a member of the performing arts department, having appeared in the fall musical twice and competed with the jazz band, one-act play and show choir, for which she is a soloist and arranger. She was chosen for the District V Honors Choir, Williams College Book Award, Society of Women Engineers Award, Dirigo Girls State and the 2006 Principals’ Award.
Jessica Marie Speed, daughter of Robert and Lori Speed of Millinocket, has been named co-salutatorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend Husson College to study physical therapy.
She was elected as a delegate to attend Dirigo Girls State and was selected as the junior marshal for the graduating Class of 2005. She participated on the math team as a freshman and earned a Top Ten Individual Mathematics Award in the Eastern Maine Math League. She earned a Girl Scout Life-Saving Award and Girl Scout Silver Award. She was a member of the Robinson Ballet Company in Bangor for five years.
Throughout her four years at Stearns, Speed has been involved with basketball, competitive cheerleading, pit band, jazz band, jazz choir, show choir and the one-act play. She took part in the French club and volunteered on the prom committee.
Michael J. DuBois, son of Ronald and Theresa DuBois of Millinocket, has been named co-salutatorian of the Class of 2006. He will attend the University of Southern Maine to study mathematics and music education.
He has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and is a member of the Stearns Varsity math team. He has been involved with the school’s performing arts department, has played piano with the jazz band for three years and has been a bass and assistant accompanist for the concert choir for four years. He has been on the technical crew for four years and was assistant technical director his senior year. He has been pianist for the school show choir for four years and will accompany the concert choir at a vocal competition in New York City in May.
A fourth-year French student, DuBois teaches French vocabulary at the third-grade level at Granite Street Elementary School. He has volunteered for four years as pianist at Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Millinocket.
