The Bangor Daily News recently learned that some people whose names appeared in the newspaper for celebratory reasons were subsequently solicited by someone claiming to be from the newspaper. The caller offered keepsake copies of articles if the person would give their credit card number. The BDN does NOT do such soliciting and if anyone should have a question about the authenticity of a caller claiming to be from the BDN, they should call the paper at 990-8000 or (800) 432-7964 to make sure the call is not from a scam artist.
