Flint sparks Ashland’s sweep

ASHLAND – Whitney Flint pitched back-to-back one-hitters and struck out 31 batters while walking 10 to lead the Ashland Hornets to a doubleheader softball sweep (2-1 and 7-0) over Wisdom of St. Agatha here Saturday.

Flint has 88 strikeouts in seven starts.

In the first game, Ashley Nemer’s single up the middle with one out in the bottom of the seventh and the bases loaded scored the tying and game-winning runs.

Angela Belskis tripled for the Hornets.

Kayla Daigle’s two-out RBI double to right in the first was Wisdom’s lone hit.

In the second game, Flint did it all for the Hornets as she hit a two-run home run in the third inning and tripled.

Nicole St. Pierre did it all for the Pioneers as well as she hit a leadoff single in the sixth. Pitching-wise, she went the distance in both games, allowing nine hits with 17 strikeouts and six walks.

At Limestone, Julie Peers hit two doubles and a single to drive in two runs and lead Limestone Community School and Maine School of Science and Mathematics to victory.

Britney King had three singles and two RBIs for Limestone and Kellie Peers added three singles. Crystal Silva and Emily O’Neal both had two singles and two RBIs.

Rachel Palmer and Amy Reed each hit an RBI single for Washburn.

Hermon sweeps Caribou

At Caribou, Ashley Kelley allowed just one hit and one walks while striking out nine to lead Hermon to the 9-0 shutout win over Caribou in the opener. Hermon also took the second game 4-2.

In the first game, Lily Barry tripled, doubled, and singled to knock in three runs for Hermon. Cassie White doubled and scored three runs.

Makayla Gahagan hit a lead-off single for Caribou.

In the second game, Kelley recorded 14 strikeouts for the Hawks. Barry singled twice and Mycah Cyr singled and scored two runs.

Kristen Espling tripled and scored a run for Caribou as Gahagan, Billie Martin, and Jessica Kinney each hit a double.

At Bangor, Cala Dearborn hit four singles and scored two runs as Bangor Christian defeated Southern Aroostook.

Amber Leathers had a double and scored a run while Brooke Hale added a double and a single with a run scored for the Patriots.

Kaylea Collier hit an RBI triple while Jordan Sholler and Amanda Clark each had two singles for the Warriors.

Caribou 3-9, Hermon 2-0

At Caribou, back-to-back solid starts from Josh Doucette and Dustin Haines gave the Caribou Vikings a doubleheader sweep.

In the first game, Doucette (3-1) pitched a three-hitter while striking out 10 batters and walking none. Dustin Haines’ one-out RBI double scored the winning run in the third. Corey Dickenson added an RBI single.

Derek Helms had a double, a single, and an RBI for the visiting Hawks. Tim Keneson allowed four hits in the loss.

In the second game, Dustin Haines walked no one, notched seven strikeouts, and allowed just one hit.

Devin Hersey had three singles, Eric Brown had two singles, and Eric Jepson doubled for the Vikings.

Zack Deabay’s single in the second was Hermon’s lone hit.

At Dyer Brook, Tom Desjardins allowed just one hit and walked none while striking out two to earn the shutout win for Fort Kent.

Desjardins hit a two-run home run and two singles to knock in three runs for the Warriors. Gib Michaud hit a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Clay Lawlor singled in the second inning for Southern Aroostook.

DI-Stonington sweeps Katahdin

At Brewer, Collin Ciomei allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out 10 to lead Deer Isle-Stonington to the 6-0 win over Katahdin of Stacyville in the first game. The Mariners also won the second game 4-3.

In the first game, Eben Powers hit a double and two singles to drive in three runs for DI-Stonington. Ray Garcia had three singles and an RBI and Jon Eaton added two singles and two RBIs.

O’Neill Qualey, Cam Cunningham, Burton Brayall, and Owen McCarthy singled for Katahdin.

In the second game, Ethan Hale singled to right field in the sixth inning to score Jon Eaton and break the 3-3 tie for DI-Stonington. Powers added an RBI single.

Patrick Willett struck out 13 and walked three for the Cougars. Casey Savage singled twice to drive in a run and McCarthy hit an RBI single.

John Bapst, Presque Isle split

At Presque Isle, Kyle Gallant hit a solo home run in seventh inning to lead John Bapst of Bangor past Presque Isle 4-3 in the first game. The Wildcats won the second game 7-3.

In the first game, Gallant homered and doubled for the Crusaders. Nick Hubbard had two singles and an RBI and Anthony Ortiz added two singles.

Derrek Belanger hit a solo home run and a double for Presque Isle. Bennett Cassidy hit an RBI single and Tyler Lamoureaux doubled.

In the second game, Logan York doubled and singled to knock in a run for the Wildcats and Belanger hit a two-run single in the fourth inning. Cassidy singled twice and Lamoureaux hit an RBI single.

Chris Smith hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning for John Bapst. Hubbard singled twice and Alex Yates doubled and singled.

At Ashland, Randy Thibeault scored to break the 12-12 tie in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded balk to lead Wisdom of St. Agatha to the 13-12 win over Ashland. The Hornets won the second game 12-10.

In the first game, Justin Michaud had a triple, double, and two singles and drove in two runs for Wisdom. Wayne Dyment hit two doubles and a single and Chad Sirois had three singles.

Tyler Cote hit four singles for Ashland and Curtis Belanger added two doubles and a single with two RBIs.

In the second game, Trevor Tompkins hit a two-run home run and added a double and a single to knock in five runs for the Hornets. Lucas Belanger had two singles and two RBIs. Jeremy Tarr doubled and singled and Cote singled twice.

Sirois hit two doubles and a single for the Pioneers as Justin Michaud and Eric Bernier each added three singles.

Hunter Caron hit a single, a double and a triple with an RBI. Ian Pasquarelli and Corey Lewis each added three singles with two RBIs for the Shiretowners.

Billy Roy had two singles and an RBI for Madawaska while Mark Sirois added a single.

Enman and Albert combined for four walks and seven strikeouts.

Enman hit a solo home run for the Eagles and Mike Hancock singled twice. Chris Kirchner, Gabe Hrynick, and James Dempsey each had a double and an RBI.

At Danforth, the Vikings scored eight runs in the first inning on their way to victory.

Isaiah Gillis singled three times with three RBIs to lead East Grand. Kyle Dicker doubled and singled (RBI) and Nate Sixberry doubled and knocked in three runs. Winner Micah Barnes struck out 13.

Dan Osteberg singled twice with two RBIs for Narraguagus of Harrington. Jeremy Look doubled twice.
