BANGOR – John Bapst Memorial High School Head of School Landis Green has announced honor parts for the Class of 2006. The Baccalaureate Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, June 2, at All Souls Congregational Church, followed by class night. Commencement exercises will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 4, in the John Bapst Auditorium.
Vanessa J. Weber, daughter of James and Janet Weber of Dedham, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend the University of Maine to study microbiology.
She is a National Merit Commended Student, a member of the John Bapst Chapter of the National Honor Society, and recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Science Award. She has earned high honors every quarter throughout high school and has received numerous academic awards for outstanding achievement.
Weber has been active in student senate, serving as an officer in her junior year, and represented John Bapst in the Regional Maine Youth Leadership Program. She also has participated on the school’s math team and is a three-season varsity athlete lettering in cross-country, track and skiing. She served as captain of the cross-country team during her senior year.
She has volunteered her time as assistant track coach for a local junior high program, studied and performed as a junior chorister with the St. John’s Episcopal choir, provided socialization training of service dogs and assisted with the American Red Cross Blood drive.
Kyle R. McGuan, son of David and Barbara McGuan of Holden, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2006. He will attend McGill University to study anatomy, cell biology and French.
He is a member of the John Bapst Chapter of the National Honor Society and recipient of the University of Rochester F. Douglas and S. Anthony Award. He has received numerous academic awards for outstanding achievement and has earned honor roll status every quarter throughout high school. He has served as president and treasurer of Key Club, participated in Destination Imagination, and has been a member of the John Bapst Honors band. He has also lettered in varsity golf.
McGuan serves as an acolyte at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church and has been active in the Boy Scouts of America, earning an Eagle Scout Award in his sophomore year. He has been involved in many community service projects throughout high school.
