PITTSFIELD – Two Massachusetts men were injured early Monday morning in a crash on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield.

Charles McKenna, 42, of Mashpee, Mass., was operating a 2001 Jeep Cherokee northbound just before the Pittsfield exit when the cargo-filled utility trailer he was hauling began to sway. The accident took place at 6:15 a.m.

“He may have overcorrected and lost control,” Maine State Trooper Jeff Beach said Monday. “He went off the road and struck a tree.”

Beach said McKenna may have suffered leg fractures, and his passenger, Henry Desrosiers, 72, was suffering from neck pain.

Both were wearing seat belts, and McKenna said they were headed north for a camping trip.

The men were taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment. No charges were lodged.

Beach said he was assisted at the scene by the Pittsfield Fire Department.
