BANGOR – Two men were sentenced to federal prison on Monday in U.S. District Court in unrelated cases.
Alfonso Coello-Vasquez, 34, a Mexican citizen, was sentenced to four years in prison for entering the country illegally. He also was sentenced to three years of supervised release following his release from prison, but is expected to be deported when he is released.
He faced up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Coello-Vasquez, who has used at least two aliases, was deported previously in 1995 and 1998. He re-entered the United States in January 2004 near El Paso, Texas, according to court documents.
He was arrested on the Maine Turnpike in Kennebec County on March 26, 2005, for an assault on a fellow illegal alien.
In an unrelated case, Travis Farmer, 26, of Farmington was sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison for possession of child pornography. He also was sentenced to 10 years of supervised release following his sentence.
Farmer’s computer was seized in November 2003 after investigators the previous year linked images sent from a San Francisco firm to his Internet address.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury last year. Farmer, who faced up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000, pleaded guilty to the charges in January.
