AUGUSTA – In honor of Maine Army National Guard Staff Sgt. David Michael Veverka, who will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery today, Gov. John Baldacci has directed that the United States and Maine flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

Veverka, a 25-year-old University of Maine student from Jamestown, Pa., was killed by a bomb during an attack in Iraq on May 6. He was a member of B Company, 3rd Battalion of the 172nd Infantry regiment based in Brewer.

He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., today.
