‘Very, very big’ pig corralled in Orrington

A very large pet pig was briefly on the loose Tuesday morning on Johnson Mill Road in Orrington, but with a little coaxing, pet and owner were reunited.

The pig was seen near the road and an observer was concerned enough to call the police at about 11:10 a.m. Tuesday. Orrington Deputy Andy Fish of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office answered the call and located the porker after it apparently had eaten a neighbor’s flowers, Orrington Deputy Bill Gardner said Tuesday.

With some help, Fish captured the pig, which Gardner said was described as being “very, very big.”

Fish then went about locating the owner, and visiting one home, found a woman who acknowledged that she owned a pet pig and likely was the only one on the road to have one.

An off-duty Brewer police officer reported at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday that there was a man passed out in a gray van on Pierce Road. The van was still running, although the man had his foot on the brake, according to police.

Brewer police Sgt. Rich Smith and Officer Paul Gauvin went to investigate and spoke to the motorist, William Robichaud, 50, of Orrington, who appeared to be intoxicated. His license was suspended. Robichaud performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

His blood-alcohol content registered 0.26 percent, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.
