The Ladies Professional Golf Association-United States Golf Association Girls Golf of Greater Bangor invites all girls between 7 and 17 to Girls Golf Day, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Hermon High School fields or inside if it rains.

The fun afternoon of introductory golf features oversized Starting New at Golf (SNAG) equipment. You need no experience, no equipment, to attend; this program is free and you don’t need to register. Just show up.

It kicks off the regular season of golf activities for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program, sponsored by Abnaki Girl Scout Council.

Cathy Willey is site director of the Greater Bangor program, which oversees the 10 sessions.

She hopes area girls will take advantage of the introductory afternoon and, perhaps, join the group for the golf program that runs from May through September.

All ages and skill levels are welcome and equipment is available. There is a fee for the summer session.

Instructors for this season will be two-time defending Women’s Maine State Golf Association champion Lori Frost, 13-time WMSGA champion Martha White and Hermon Meadow Golf Club professional Thea Davis.

Rich Kimball reports Brewer Youth Theatre is presenting the musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The show begins at 7 each night, starting tonight, on Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20, at Brewer Middle School, 5 Somerset St.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

The show features “a great cast of more than 30 Brewer high and middle school students, a terrific band of high school students and special guests who make appearances,” Kimball said of the comedy about a man-eating plant that destroys the universe.

You are invited to Help Fight Breast Cancer and Bring a Friend to a Pampered Chef Cooking Brunch, 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at East Bangor Community Church on the corner of Church and Pushaw roads in Bangor.

There is no admission fee. A percentage of all sale proceeds will benefit the national Help Whip Cancer Campaign for the American Cancer Society, which last year raised $4.3 million.

The presentation by Joellen Alexander is in honor of a late friend of the church, Marie Hope McCready-Blake, who died of breast cancer last year.

Saturday will be a fun day in LaGrange.

The LaGrange PTO is hosting a kids carnival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the LaGrange Fire Department on Bennoch Road.

The event features a dunk tank, bounce house, games and prizes. Proceeds benefit the new community playground.

And the LFD is hosting its annual auction and yard sale beginning at 10 a.m., on Saturday as well, at the same location.

Hot dogs, drinks, chips and baked goods will be sold; you can enter a 50-50 raffle or buy an LFD T-shirt for $10.

Jen Baker reports the LFD will share proceeds with the LaGrange Veterans Association to help erect a new memorial that will list all veterans of the town.
