Morita’s dancers nab gold at S. Portland competition

HERMON – It was gold across the board for all entries from Morita’s School of Dance at the recent Dancers Inc. competition in South Portland.

Each of the five numbers scored at least a gold, with the senior dancers’ “Sing, Sing, Sing” performance scoring a “high gold.”

The seniors also received the Fun and Entertaining Award for “Singing in the Rain,” and earned the highest score in their division for “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

The school’s 38th production will be held in two recitals:

. Bucksport, Milo and Lincoln students, 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, Peakes Auditorium, Bangor High School.

. Hermon students, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, Peakes Auditorium, Bangor High School.

Tickets for each show will be available at the door. For information, contact Morita’s School of Dance at 848-5083.

Hermon may be an inland community, but an affiliate of Morita’s, Morgan Hill Summer Camps is adding ocean studies to its curriculum. Beginning July 31, Morgan Hill, in association with Serenity Maritime and Jim Fratini, will offer classes aboard the sailing sloop Serenity.

Classes in sailing, navigation, seamanship, principles of SCUBA diving, oceanography, lobstering and the history of the Penobscot River will be offered. Transportation will be provided to and from the sailing vessel.

The day camp in ocean studies is open to fifth to ninth graders July 31-Aug. 4 or Aug. 21-25. Morgan Hill also offers camps in music, science and performing arts. Call 848-5083 for information.
