News in brief GREENVILLE: SCHOOL DIRECTOR RESIGNS

What he called a “lack of integrity” in the process of renewing a teacher’s contract prompted the resignation of Boyd Kronholm this week. Kronholm, who was serving his second three-year-old term on the Greenville School Committee, said he felt there were problems with the dual relationship of Bob Hamer, board chairman, which resulted in a conflict of interest. Hamer also is the executive director of the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce and has employed Elisabeth Martin, fiancee of Greenville Superintendent Steven Pound, at the Chamber office. When Martin, whose continuing contract as a Greenville High School teacher was up for action on May 11, Hamer did not abstain from the vote, Kronholm said. The vote on her continuing contract was 3-2.

Correction: This article ran on page B3 in the State edition. A news brief published on Page B2 in Thursday’s Final edition about a Greenville School Committee member’s resignation contained incorrect information. Elisabeth Martin, fiancee of Greenville Superintendent Steven Pound, worked for Greenville School Board Chairman Bob Hamer part time last summer in his private business rather than at the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce.
