Brewer’s current and former mayors will be in Bangor on Thursday to plant a tree at the corner of Main and Broad streets. During the 2005 Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby last June, then-Mayors Frank Farrington of Bangor and Joe Ferris of Brewer agreed that the winner of the annual mayor’s race would receive a tree for his community. Farrington won the race, and now it is time to plant the tree. Current Mayors Gail Kelly of Brewer and John Cashwell of Bangor also will participate in the event. This year’s Soap Box Derby is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 3, on Buck Street between the Bangor Auditorium and the Bangor Daily News. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
