Orono police arrest man after girlfriend says he assaulted her in their apartment

An Orono man was arrested Thursday night when police received a report that he had assaulted his live-in girlfriend.

James Cain, 29, was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor after Orono police caught up with him at a Stillwater Village apartment he shared with a 26-year-old woman.

The woman had fled the residence earlier that evening and called police from a friend’s home in Old Town. Orono police Sgt. Scott Scripture went to the Old Town home to talk with the victim, and reported that she had a swollen lip and a bruise on her right cheek.

The woman said she had an argument with Cain and tried to leave their apartment, but he had grabbed her. She alerted Scripture that two warrants for Cain’s arrest already existed.

When three Orono police officers arrived at Cain’s residence, he denied the accusations.

Bangor police officers arrested a woman Thursday night at a Hutchinson Street residence after she allegedly hit a man with a mirror.

Heidi Carlson, 22, had a scrape on her cheek and was hysterical when two Bangor officers arrived at her home, according to police records.

Upon entering the house, Bangor police Officer Douglas Moore found pieces of broken glass from a mirror scattered across the kitchen floor. Carlson said she did not know what happened to the mirror, but claimed the man at her house had assaulted her.

The man, who later said he had called his father when Carlson began “flipping out” and tearing the house apart, stated that Carlson had broken the mirror when she hit him over the shoulder with it, according to police reports. He said his father had then called the police.

Carlson was brought to Penobscot County Jail, but was later released on bail. Her 4-year-old son, who had been in the living room when police arrived, was taken from the home by Carlson’s father.
