Today, the Bangor City Council will take a number of actions that will facilitate the location of the permanent Hollywood Slots facility on Main Street. These actions are the culmination of months of intensive discussions and negotiations between the city, Bangor Historic Track and current property owners and tenants.
On behalf of the City Council, I would like to express my appreciation to Kevin Mahaney and Chiou Lin, the property owners, for their good faith, perseverance and patience during this process. The discussions were long and arduous and created uncomfortable uncertainties about the future for these businessmen.
I would also like to acknowledge the willingness of the tenants of these properties to be involved in the discussions.
While an agreement has been reached with one tenant, discussions are ongoing with a second, and we are hopeful they will be completed in the very near future.
At various points over the past seven months, any of the parties could have walked away because of expired options and other delays. While appropriately recognizing their own needs and interests, these individuals also acknowledged the importance of this project and this location to our community.
John H. Cashwell III
