Stearns edges Howlers Mills’ RBI single in 8th lifts Minutemen to win

MILLINOCKET – Casey Freeman scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Katie Mills single to lift Stearns to a 10-9 high school softball win over Penobscot Valley of Howland Tuesday.

Dayna Somers hit a two-run single in the seventh to force extra innings for Stearns and Hilary Arsenault singled twice.

Lexie Thurlow had a triple and three singles to lead the Howlers and Kelsey Lavertu doubled and singled.

At Stacyville, Katie Clark hit three singles to help lead Ashland past Katahdin.

Danielle Long doubled and singled for the Hornets as Ashley Nemer and Andrew Mayo both added two singles.

Chelsie Bates hit a double and two singles and scored two runs for Katahdin.

At Bangor, Amy Hackett slammed a two-run double to highlight Bangor’s four-run third inning en route to its victory over the Bulldogs of Fairfield.

Kelly White chipped in with three singles and two RBIs for the winners and Katie MacDonald doubled, singled twice and drove in a run. Alex Fahey added two singles and an RBI.

Heather Gilman cranked a solo home run for the Bulldogs and singled twice. Steph Johansmeyer added an RBI single.

At Lincoln, Tessa Rockwood doubled and singled to drive in two runs and lead Ellsworth to victory.

Sabrina Jellison hit a two-run double for Ellsworth and Tasha Manning had two singles and an RBI. Catie Cravens recorded 10 strikeouts.

Renee Libbey hit an RBI double for Mattanawcook Academy. Casey McCloskey hit two singles and Bree Hanscom singled and scored a run.

At Dexter, Sabrina Cote hit a triple in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored on a Michelle Chapman single to give Dexter the win.

Becky Johnson hit three singles for Dexter and Cote tripled and singled. Chapman and Jana Kenney each singled twice.

Whitney Dwyer hit four singles to knock in a run for Orono and Emily Garber tripled and singled with three RBIs. Jessica Bates, Kassie Farrar, and Michelle Nickerson each had two singles.

At Hampden, Cocoa McGraw singled in the sixth inning and later scored on an error to give Skowhegan the narrow victory.

Mariah Daigle allowed no runs on five hits and no walks while striking out six for Skowhegan. Daigle, Danielle Goff, and Caitlyn Lancaster each singled.

Michelle Wells hit two singles for Hampden Academy and Eva Shannon doubled. Liz Kiser and Nellie Wood both added a single. Lacey Littlefield allowed just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 11.

At Bar Harbor, Nia Megquier had two singles, a double and drove in a run to lead Mount Desert Island past Foxcroft.

Kaitlyn Vaux singled twice and plated two runs for the Trojans.

Sami Hall had two singles and two RBIs for the Ponies and Lindsay Chase two sisngles.

At Husson College in Bangor, Keely Sullivan pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks as the Golden Bucks remained undefeated.

Katie Hurd singled twice and doubled with three RBIs to pace the Bucksport offense, while Brittiny Adams tripled and singled and Terren Hall doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Danielle Richard had John Bapst of Bangor’s lone hit, a fourth-inning single.

At Milo, Hillary Haney’s run-scoring double and RBI singles from Kara Voisine and Chantel Randall sparked a five-run sixth-inning rally that overcame a 7-3 deficit.

Haney had two doubles, Voisine had two singles and Erica Brownell doubled for Central of Corinth.

Erica Lyford and Mindy Dolley had a two-run double and a single apiece for Penquis and Ana Rodriguez had two singles and an RBI.

Fort Fairfield wins one, loses one

At Fort Fairfield, Whitney Searles doubled, singled twice and knocked in four runs to lead Fort Fairfield past Washburn 15-12. The Tigers lost to Wisdom earlier in the day 12-3.

In the second game, Kelli Osgood singled twice, doubled and knocked in three runs for the Tigers.

Kelsee McLaughlin had a two-run double and Amy Reed three singles and three RBIs for Washburn.

In the first game, Nicole St. Pierre struck out 11 in a complete-game win for the Pioneers of St. Agatha.

Kayla Daigle hit a solo home run for Wisdom while Kelsey Towle doubled for Fort Fairfield.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, winning pitcher Alex Gallant hit an RBI triple and Ian Edwards doubled, singled and drove in a run as Bangor rolled past Lawrence of Fairfield.

Ryan Jones had two singles with an RBI and Scott Hackett a double for the Rams.

Matt Gorman’s two singles led the Bulldogs.
