A Maxfield woman refused medical treatment after her car struck a black bear on Interstate 95 on Monday night.

According to Maine State Police Trooper Seth Edwards, the 57-year-old suffered minor injuries from the deployment of her vehicle’s airbag. The front of her car was substantially damaged, Edwards said.

The victim was traveling north on the highway when she hit the animal at 11:40 p.m. between Hogan and Kelley roads.

The bear died.

A 26-year-old man was issued a summons Tuesday afternoon on a charge of operating after suspension of his driver’s license.

Bangor police Officer Randall Parsons stopped a 1992 Chevrolet Corsica for traveling 54 mph in a 35-mph zone at about 3 p.m. near the Bangor Baptist Church. While approaching the vehicle, the driver said, “You might as well take me to jail,” according to police reports.

Anthony Lombardo, 26, admitted he did not have a license, reports said.

He also didn’t possess an insurance card and was issued a summons on a charge of failing to produce proof of insurance.

Lombardo’s girlfriend drove his vehicle home, according to reports.
