HAMPDEN – For Michael Scott, 17, of Hampden, it was more than a celebration of scouting’s highest achievement. The ceremony on May 13 at Scott’s Eagle Court of Honor marked the fifth Eagle Scout award in the Scott family.
Michael joins his 19-year old brother, Matthew; his father, Greg Scott; and two paternal uncles, Mark Scott and Jonathan Scott, all of whom have earned the Boy Scouts’ highest award.
Michael Scott is a member of Boy Scout Troop 1776 in Hampden. He began his scouting career in Cub Scout Pack 41 in Hampden, advancing to Troop 41, than transferring to Troop 1776 in 2004.
For his required community service Eagle project, Scott built custom bookshelves for the town’s Edythe L. Dyer Community Library.
Scoutmaster Curtis Slininger remarked, “It is a privilege as an adult leader in scouting to take part in the growth that happens to young men like Mike Scott on the trail to Eagle.” Only 2 percent of all Boy Scouts nationally achieve the Eagle rank.
Hampden Boy Scout Troop 1776 is sponsored by Whitcomb-Baker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4633 in Hampden.
