Houlton High School

HOULTON – Marty Bouchard, principal of Houlton High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2006.

Corey W. Lewis, son of Evan and Wendy Lewis of Littleton, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2006. He will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study civil engineering.

He is president of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student and received the President’s Award and sophomore English award. He was a member of the academic decathlon and received the Rotary award for two years. He was student of the month for social studies excellence and received the Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglas Award for social service and academic achievement. He has been a student council member for four years.

Lewis has been a member of the math team and received individual math awards. He has been a member of the physics club, Spanish club, civil rights team, student athletic summit and the Sports Done Right Committee.

He has played varsity baseball for four years, varsity basketball for two years, varsity volleyball for two years and varsity soccer for three years. He has played junior varsity basketball and soccer and was the racquetball league champion for two years.

Lewis has been in the school musical, a member of the State Championship Show Choir for four years, the jazz ensemble, All-Aroostook chorus, chamber choir and has won first place in the Houlton High School Community Talent Show. He is active in his church as a volunteer and member of the youth group.

Matthew J. Gartley, son of Henry and Marion Gartley of Houlton, has been named salutatorian. He will attend Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne to study aeronautical science with flight option.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student. He is involved in the Aspirations Mentoring Program and attended Dirigo Boys State. He is a member of the physics club.

Gartley is involved with the jazz band, jazz combo, show choir and jazz choir.

Nicole Manton, daughter of Wayne and Nancy Manton of Hodgdon, has been named first honor essayist for the Class of 2006. She will attend Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., to study chemical engineering.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, received the Principal’s honor award, the Junior English award, and the National Society of Women Engineers award. She is involved in the Aspirations Mentoring program and the Service Learning program. She has served as a tutor and has been involved in the Big Sister program.

Manton has been in the school musical, played junior varsity basketball, junior varsity and varsity soccer, and has served as manager of the varsity hockey team.

Kyle P. McCormick, son of Brent and Susan McCormick of Houlton, has been named second honor essayist for the Class of 2006. He will attend the New England School of Communications in Bangor to study communications with a concentration in audio engineering.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student and a mentor for the Student Aspirations program.

He has served as section leader for concert band, jazz band, pep band, the All-Aroostook Music Festival, and serves a crew chief for the Houlton High School technical crew. He is a member of the jazz combo, jazz choir and the percussion ensemble and has done technical work and lighting for musicals and recitals at the school.

McCormick has played varsity hockey, varsity soccer and varsity tennis. He has been involved is community affairs, a member of McGill’s Community Band, has served as traffic director for the Houlton Fair Association and assisted in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas fundraiser. He has been involved in music performances at the Houlton Methodist Church and is employed at Chadwick Florist and Greenhouses.
