Boston’s Schilling goes to bat for charity

The online sword-and-sorcery title EverQuest II is getting a new villain. Behold its fearsome name: Curt Schilling.

The character is based on the Boston Red Sox pitcher of the same name. We are told that Schilling, the real-world one, is an EverQuest fan and agreed to put his likeness in the game as a fundraiser for the ALS Association, which assists patients with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

When players defeat the virtual Schilling character, Sony Online Entertainment, the creators of EverQuest II, will make a donation of $5 to the organization.

The promotion will last for three days, during the Yankees-Red Sox baseball series June 5, 6 and 7 at Yankee Stadium. See www.battleals.com for more information.
