EASTON – Principal Ralph Conroy Jr. of Easton Junior-Senior High School has announced the honor parts for the graduation ceremonies of the Class of 2006 which will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 9.

Kari Beckom, daughter of David and Gail Beckom of Easton has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study studio art.

An artist, she has been working on a mural at the Francis Malcom Science Center. She has performed with the Easton Theater Company, one-act play and senior play. She has been class vice president and participated in varsity soccer and chorus.

Beckom is a member of the Easton chapter of the National Honor Society. She was awarded second place for her junior exhibition performance, “The Death of a Hired Man.” She was the recipient of the 2006 Maine Principal’s Award.

Tessa Ireland, daughter of Marion Donahue of Easton and Michael Ireland Sr. of Presque Isle, has been named salutatorian. She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to take liberal studies.

She has volunteered more than 800 hours of service to the local community. She is president of the Easton chapter of the Future Farmers of America and vice president of both the National Honor Society and varsity club. She was selected as student of the month and has played both varsity soccer and basketball. She has been a member of the student council, the math team and envirothon.

George Ferris, son of Glendon Ferris of Presque Isle and Gail Ferris of Easton, has been named first honor essayist. He will attend Husson College in Bangor to study physical therapy.

He has participated in varsity basketball and soccer and currently serves as treasurer for his class as well as treasurer for the varsity club. This year, he was the highest scoring senior in the small school division of the Aroostook math league. He is co-president of the French Club and vice president of the Easton chapter of the Future Farmers of America.

Amy Barnes, daughter of Fred and Jill Barnes of Easton, has been named second honor essayist. She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study elementary education.

She has participated in band, chorus and jazz choir and has been recognized for her talents in these areas including All-Aroostook and All-State. She has played varsity basketball and has been a varsity cheerleader. She has acted in two senior plays and four one-act plays and earned a first place medal for her presentation of her junior exhibition speech. She has been a member of student council, a delegate to Dirigo Girls State, secretary of her class and a member of both Future Farmers of America and Key Club. She is the current president of Easton’s chapter of the National Honor Society and editor of the school yearbook.
