Palmer rallies Washburn past Central Aroostook

MARS HILL – Amber Palmer slammed a three-run triple in top of the seventh as the Washburn Beavers rallied by the Central Aroostook Panthers 13-9 in high school softball action Friday.

Kristina Goupille chipped in with five singles for the winners while Amber Reed and Sara Davis each singled twice. Davis also had an RBI and Palmer added a double and single.

Amber Bradley singled twice for CAHS and Meagan Pryor added a two-run single. Samantha Brewer, Damie Cushman and Robyn Graham each contributed an RBI single.

At Millinocket Thursday, catcher Dayna Somers notched two doubles, a single and drove in two runs to lead Stearns over Houlton.

Katie Mills added three singles and an RBI and Amy Collinsworth had a double, single and an RBI for the winners.

Erika Lackey drove in two runs on a double and a single, and Lainey Herring chipped in with a single and a triple for the Shiretowners.

At Van Buren, Melanie Allen drove in six runs on three doubles and two singles as Limestone Community School/ Maine School of Science and Mathematics cruised to the win.

Brittany King and Leeanne Kelly each hit three singles for the Eagles.

Megan Lajoie hit a two-run double and Kelsey Smith added two singles and two RBIs. Kristen Vaillancourt singled twice for the Crusaders.

At Waldoboro, Alisha Champaign smacked a two-run single, driving in Miranda Burton and Paige Gardiner in the top of the seventh as Waterville held off Medomak Valley.

Champaign doubled in the top of the third and finished with five RBIs and Gardiner tallied three singles. Taylor Hart doubled and had two singles for the Purple Panthers.

Megan Bradstreet and Stephanie Lee each doubled for the Pathers. Brittany Barber, Erin Sweeney and April Baker chipped in with two singles apiece.

At Mars Hill, two-run singles by brothers Eric and Manny Martinez highlighted a 10-run first inning that propelled the Panthers past the Beavers.

Manny Martinez, Tim Carlson, and R.J. Richardson each posted two singles and a double with Martinez getting three RBIs and Carlson two. Carlson earned the win, striking out nine and walking three.

For the Beavers, Steven Pesut had a single and double, and Ben Goupille and Adam Thompson each had two singles and an RBI.

At Van Buren, run-scoring singles by Lance Smith and Keith Vaillancourt capped a two-run sixth inning that gave Van Buren its come-from-behind win over Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Van Buren erased a 7-1 deficit with four runs in the fourth and two apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.

Matt Parent picked up the win with three innings of two-hit, shutout relief.

Vaillancourt finished with a double and two singles to pace the Crusaders’ 15-hit attack. Kyle Chasse had three singles and two RBIs; Trevor Hews had two singles and two RBIs; Brandon Boulware had two singles and an RBI and Alex Martin had two base hits.

Andrew Kirchner and James Dempsey had two singles and an RBI apiece for the Eagles; Dustin Morgan had two singles; Matt Enman had a two-run double and Dan Hayes doubled home a run.

At Presque Isle, Josh Murchison’s two-run single with two outs in the fifth inning gave the Lynx some breathing room after Presque Isle had scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to pull within 5-4.

Jake Smith, Tyson Tash and Mike Farrell each doubled and singled and drove in a run and Murchison had two singles and two RBIs. Drew Welch pitched a seven-hit complete game, striking out five and walking six.

Derrek Belanger had three singles and three RBIs for Presque Isle with Chris Beaulieu and Matt McGlinn contributing doubles.

At Hampden, Shawn Smith tallied a double, two singles and three RBIs and Ian Lee chipped in with a triple, two singles and drove in three runs as Hampden cruised past Nokomis.

Joel Neill singled, doubled and had two RBIs and Danny MacLean tripled and scored two runs for the Broncos. Harvey Shue added two singles and two runs scored.

Eric Boillard singled twice for the Warriors.

Noah Burke cranked a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and added a bunt single for the Windjammers. Cummons, Holbrook and Michael Cummons each tallied two singles apiece.

Ryan Parlin notched a double and an RBI single and Brendon Moran added an RBI single of his own for the Eagles. Kyle Hannan chipped in with a double.

At Millinocket, Jordan Burleigh’s three-run triple highlighted an 11-run third inning that carried Stearns past Penquis of Milo.

Travis Deabay paced Stearns’ 14-hit attack with a triple and three singles. He scored four times. Travis Martin drove in four runs with a two-run homer and two sacrifice flies; Corey Barnett doubled and singled and knocked in a pair and Paul Rucci had two singles and an RBI.

Kyle Gero doubled and singled for Penquis and Zack Beals singled twice.

Matt Nickerson struck out 12 Sumner batters and Casey Ashey hit three singles for the Vikings. Kyle Ritchie chipped in with an RBI double.

Steve Kerrigan tallied two singles with three RBI and Mickey Manning drove in two runs on two singles. Evan Alexander singled and doubled for the Tigers.
